The Funeral“The Funeral
”by Cory Tamler
Directed by Carol Schafer

Presented at the Open Stage Theatre,Cory Tamler's play is a sort of after-piece to Euripides' great tragedy, The Trojan Women, which also features Hecuba, queen of Troy. In our play, Hecuba confronts Eris, goddess of "Strife," and blames her for the disaster that has befallen Troy and the misery the surviving women now find themselves in. The dialogue is wry and witty, in spite of the tragic situation. All the characters speak in a formal, verse-like fashion--except Hecuba, who is straight forward and pretty much modern in her diction.

Steel Magnolias“Steel Magnolias
by Robert Harling
Directed by David Grande

The action is set in Truvy’s beauty salon in Chinquapin, La., where the ladies who are "anybody" come to have their hair done. Helped by her eager new assistant, Annelle, the outspoken Truvy dispenses shampoos and free advice to her clients. Shelby, a diabetic, decides she wants to have a child and forfeits her life because of it. The sudden realization of their mortality affects Truvy’s clients, but also is what gives the play its strength.

Steel Magnolias was performed in loving memory of fellow Heritage Player, Debbie Wessolek whose favorite role was portraying Claree in Steel Magnolias, and for whom we realize her dream of directing this production for our stage.

12 Angry JurorsTwelve Angry Jurors
Written by Reginald Rose
Directed by Ed Carey

A jury of seven men and five women deliberate the fate of a 19-year-old man accused of first-degree murder for the fatal stabbing of his father.   The play examines the twelve jurors' deep-seated personal prejudices, perceptual biases and weaknesses, indifference, angry personalities, unreliable judgments, cultural differences, ignorance and fears that threaten to taint their decision-making abilities, cause them to ignore the real issues in the case, and potentially lead them to a miscarriage of justice.
